Martin Collett, Chief Executive of English Rural, has over 15 years’ experience in the rural housing sector. He is a Corporate Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing, graduate of the University of London and former Chair of the Rural Housing Alliance. Martin is also a Trustee and Chair of Audit and Risk Committee for the rural community business charity the Plunkett Foundation, a Director of the Rural Services Network, and a Trustee of the LGBT+ youth homelessness charity the Albert Kennedy Trust.
Karen joined English Rural in March 2008 as Governance and Executive Support Manager. Her role includes offering support to the Senior Management Team and assisting with development and business administration. Karen is also English Rural’s Company Secretary. Before coming to work for English Rural she developed a successful career with a high street bank, was a PA at an International Company, and more latterly worked in the Political Offices at the London Borough of Brent.
David joined English Rural in April 2019 as their Communications Officer. David has over 20 years experience in the media sector, the majority of which has been spent at media and advertising giant WPP within Millward Brown and Kantar Media. David brings his experience in communications measurement and social media to this new role at English Rural.
James has over 30 years experience in development and construction, with the last 15 years spent in the specialist area of affordable rural housing. He was employed by English Rural in 2004 as our first Development Director and was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive in January 2007. He has been an associate member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors since 1982. James is responsible for the delivery of our development programme.
Ian has over 44 years experience in development and construction, with the last 29 years spent in the specialist area of affordable rural housing. He was employed by English Rural in 2010 as our Regional Development Manager covering the Thames Valley and surrounding region and was appointed Technical Development Manager in 2011. Ian is also responsible for ensuring English Rural keep abreast of innovative technology and development systems to maintain our high standard of affordable housing and also works closely with the repairs and maintenance team to deliver high quality services to residents.
Nick is the Regional Development Manager for the Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. He joined English Rural in 2008 from Guildford Borough Council where he worked as the Housing Development Manager. Having worked in rural Surrey for many years Nick knows the area and the affordable housing issues affecting it extremely well. His knowledge and experiences ensure that he is superbly placed to continue English Rural’s achievements. Nick is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Alison joined in 2005 and is English Rural’s Development Manager for Kent and Essex. Alison has previously worked for the Rural Housing Trust and also was the Kent Rural Housing Enabler for five years. Prior to commitment to the world of rural housing, Alison was involved in property marketing and development for twenty one years.
Graham joined English Rural in January 2020 as Development Project Manager, working in the Kent and Essex areas. Graham has an architectural background and for the past 24 years has specialised in residential design, with rural exception sites being a key focus of his work. He has been closely involved in a number of English Rural’s schemes over the years. Graham is an Associate member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers.
Beau is the new Head of Property Maintenance . He joined English Rural in 2019 from a national property management company as Head of Property Maintenance. Previously and for over 18 years worked within the social housing sector as a Senior Surveyor and Contract Manager within the asset management departments, specialising in day to days repairs, void properties and planned maintenance. His previous experience working for both a G15 and a rural housing association ensure he is well placed to buy into English Rurals philosophy and vision.
Dawn joined English Rural in 2014 as a Repairs and Maintenance Officer. Her role is to provide a service for reactive repairs and maintenance. Before coming to work for English Rural Dawn worked as a Contract Administrator for a local central heating company. She worked there for over 7 years and has gained a vast amount of knowledge and experience in dealing with repairs and maintenance within the heating industry.
Wendy brings a wealth of account management skills and customer service experience to her role as Repairs and Maintenance Administrator. Having previously worked in the charity sector for many years as a Trust Fundraiser with her last position being a Trust Fundraising Manager for the domestic violence charity Refuge, Wendy decided to move from the charity sector and further her experience at English Rural in the affordable rural housing sector.
Janette joined English Rural in 2012 as a Repairs and Maintenance Manager. Her role is to provide a service for reactive repairs and maintenance. Janette also co-ordinates English Rural’s planned maintenance activity, which sees an annual programme of upgrading homes. Previously Janette worked as a Contract Administrator for a Heating and Installation company and gained a great deal of experience within this Industry.
Julie joined English Rural in October 2017 working part time as our Repairs and Maintenance Administrator. Joining English Rural from a varied secretarial/admin background in legal, sales, education and most recently retail property. Her role is primarily to assist the housing and maintenance teams by supporting the effective delivery of housing and property services to the Association’s residents.
Steven joined English Rural in 2008, having previously worked for a legal firm where he dealt with shared ownership sales. Steven was initially the Housing Services Administrator, responsible for ensuring the successful and satisfactory management of English Rural’s housing stock and supporting the external Housing Management. He became Regional Housing Manager for Essex and the Eastern region in September 2012 and is responsible for the day to day neighbourhood and tenancy management. Steven recently completed an MsC qualification through the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Jade joined English Rural in March 2015 as a temp. In February 2016 her position was made permanent when she was appointed to the role of Housing Services Administrator. Jade was appointed Regional Housing Manager in June 2017. She joined English Rural from a retail background where she worked for six years.
Kathryn joined English Rural in 2006 and is Head of Housing Services. Her role involves liaising with regional housing management and property services colleagues to oversee the management and maintenance of English Rural homes. Before joining English Rural, Kathryn spent 3 years as a Housing Officer at Southwark and London Diocesan Housing Association. Kathryn is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Terri joined English Rural in May 2017 working part time as our Services Assistant. In August 2017, she became a full time member of our team when she was appointed the role of Housing Services Administrator. Terri joined English Rural from a Childcare and teaching background where she worked for 8 years.
Pam joined English Rural as Housing Services Administrator in April 2016, becoming Housing Services Administrator. Her role is a varied and active one and includes managing sales and lettings, providing administrative support to the Housing Management and Repairs teams. She joined English Rural from the Charity sector where she gained experience in community care and management.
Luke joined English Rural in 2012 as Housing Services Administrator and is currently one of the Regional Housing Managers at English Rural, covering Kent, Sussex and parts of Surrey. Luke graduated from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand with a Master’s Degree in Geography and is pursuing qualifications in housing through the Chartered Institute of Housing.
Kay started her housing career in 2004, working as a Sheltered Housing Officer for Purbeck Housing Trust, later taking the position of Tenant Services Officer within the Trust, and then to Twynham Housing Association as a Housing Officer. In 2014, Kay became Manager & Secretary for New Forest Villages Housing Association (NFVHA), and more recently working in conjunction with English Rural Housing Association. Since the recent merger between NFVHA and English Rural, Kay now works as NFVHA Housing Manager (Part-Time), covering the New Forest properties.
Ray has over 25 years’ experience in housing finance, a major part of which was as Finance Director for a Large-Scale Voluntary Transfer in Maidenhead. He has raised new funding for development from both the banks and capital markets, including raising £150m from M&G in 2013. Ray joined English Rural in 2015. He is an Economics graduate form Nottingham University and a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy.
Chyna joined English Rural as a Finance Apprentice in 2015 and was employed permanently in 2019 as Finance Assistant. Chyna is actively developing her experience and skills within the housing and finance sector, including studying for accountancy qualifications, securing some crucial finance support for the organisation. Before working for English Rural Chyna was a football coach and referee, an interest she still pursues in her spare time.
Ferdi joined English Rural in September 2002 as an Accounts Assistant. Over the years his responsibilities have increased, and he was promoted to Finance Manager in 2014. His main responsibilities involve the preparation of management accounts, cash management, maintaining the fixed asset register and year-end financial schedules for the Group. He also manages the day-to-day running of the Finance Team.
Lorna joined English Rural in 2008 as a temp and in April 2009 she became a permanent member of staff and took up the post of Accounts Officer. She has recently been promoted to the new position of Accounts Supervisor and now has responsibility for over-seeing the Associations transactional accounting, including rents, purchase ledger, sales ledger and cashbooks. Before joining English Rural, Lorna worked for Stonham Housing Association as Finance Assistant.
Jumon joined English Rural in January 2020 as Accounts Administrator. He is currently on a training contract which will allow him to sit ACCA exams, aspiring to becoming a qualified accountant. He has just recently graduated from the University of Greenwich in 2019, studying Accounting and Finance. His main responsibilities include management of rents, purchase and invoice accounts and supporting the team where possible.
