Big Door Knock

Putting Residents at the Heart of the Conversation

At English Rural, we believe some of the most valuable conversations happen face-to-face.That’s why we’re launching our first ever Big Door Knock: a day dedicated to getting out into our communities, meeting residents where they live and listening to what matters most to them. On Thursday 16 July, colleagues from across English Rural will be visiting a representative sample of developments across the counties where we operate. The aim is simple: to spend time in our communities, hear directly from residents and strengthen the relationship between residents and the people who work for English Rural.

Why Are We Doing This?

The Big Door Knock has been developed in response to feedback from residents who told us they would like more opportunities to see and speak with English Rural staff in person. It forms part of our wider commitment to resident engagement and ensuring that residents’ voices help shape our services. By visiting our communities, we hope to:

  • Listen to residents’ experiences of living in their homes and neighbourhoods.
  • Better understand the issues and opportunities within our communities.
  • Strengthen relationships between residents and English Rural staff.
  • Improve our visibility across the areas where we operate.
  • Gather feedback that can help us improve our services.
  • Ensure the information we hold about residents and our homes is accurate and up to date where residents choose to share information with us.

Most importantly, we want residents to know that their views matter, and that we’re committed to listening.

What Will Happen on the Day?

Teams of English Rural colleagues will visit selected developments throughout the day.If your development is taking part, members of our team may knock on your door to introduce themselves and invite you to have a friendly, informal conversation. There is no need to prepare anything in advance, and there is absolutely no obligation to take part. We’d love to hear about:

  • Your experience of living in your home.
  • What you enjoy about your community.
  • Any suggestions you have for improvement.
  • Any questions or ideas you’d like to share with us.

Alongside speaking with residents, staff will also spend time walking around developments, helping us build a better understanding of our homes and neighbourhoods.

Do I Have to Take Part?

No.The Big Door Knock is entirely voluntary. If you’re not at home when we visit, or would prefer not to speak with us, that’s completely fine. There will be no impact on the services you receive from English Rural. However, if you would like to chat, we’d be delighted to meet you and hear your views.

Will You Be Visiting Every Development?

Not this time. The Big Door Knock is being run as a pilot programme, with visits taking place at a representative sample of developments across the counties where English Rural operates. This allows us to test the approach, learn from the experience and understand how residents and staff feel about the initiative. If the pilot is successful, we hope to expand the programme in the future so that more residents and communities can take part.

What Will You Do With the Feedback?

The conversations we have will help us better understand the things that matter most to residents. Feedback gathered through the Big Door Knock will be used to:

  • Identify opportunities to improve services.
  • Better understand community needs.
  • Inform future resident engagement activities.
  • Help shape future communications and initiatives.
  • Strengthen our understanding of resident experiences.

After the event, we’ll share an update with residents on what we learned and how the feedback will help inform our future work.

Building Stronger Communities Together

English Rural’s mission has always been about more than homes. It’s about supporting thriving rural communities and ensuring residents have a voice in the services they receive. The Big Door Knock is one more way we’re bringing that commitment to life.We look forward to meeting residents, listening to their experiences and learning more about the communities we’re proud to serve.
