Celebrating Rural Housing Week 2024: A Recap of Our Activities and Achievements

This year’s Rural Housing Week, held from July 1st to July 5th, 2024, was a resounding success. At English Rural, we’re thrilled to share the highlights of our activities and the progress made in advocating for affordable rural housing. Throughout the week, we launched initiatives, shared inspiring stories, and engaged with the community to raise awareness about the importance of rural housing.

Launching the Rural Housing Manifesto and Infographic

We kicked off the week by unveiling our Rural Housing Manifesto, which outlines the urgent need for affordable housing in rural areas. The manifesto was accompanied by a compelling infographic packed with statistics that make a powerful case for building more rural homes. Introducing the Rural Homelessness Community of Practice

In collaboration with the Rural Homelessness Counts Coalition, we launched the Rural Homelessness Community of Practice. This initiative aims to tackle the often-hidden issue of rural homelessness by sharing best practices and exploring innovative solutions. The first session is scheduled for July 19th, and we invite all interested parties to join us in making a difference.

Webinar on the Rural Housing Crisis

On July 2nd, the National Housing Federation hosted a webinar featuring experts discussing the rural housing crisis and its impacts on local economies and communities. The webinar highlighted the need for interventions and a long-term plan for housing in rural areas. Our Chair, Mark Pragnell, gave an insiring talk on the socio-economic benefits of building affordable rural homes.

Affordable Homes in West Kingsdown, Kent

We were thrilled to announce that planning consent was granted for 10 affordable homes in West Kingsdown, Kent. This development will include a mix of maisonettes, bungalows, and houses with green features. The huge demand for these homes underscores the need for more rural housing.
